Open book exams

Hi everyone.

My name is Joe. Last year i had one open book exam. I really hate it. Its too tough man....I dont know why university has open boox exams.... for law students and statistics students its good to have these exams...but why us. professors also set very hard paper. I think that their should be some kind of rule that student can opt for open and closed book exam. what you say ??. Last year when i was giving this exam i did not get time to see the book in just 2 hr to complete the paper...It is a open book but guys you won't get time to see the paper and secondly paper is too tough. I think univ should not have this paper.

PLZ give your views...!!!

Exam Fever

Hey guys…..its me jakie… I am doing masters in marketing….!!

I know these days every one would be very busy with their exams preparation. Even I am very tensed about exams…how to read all the chapters…how to prepare…But Yesterday I attended one program about how to survive in the exams period. It was really great. University is really nice that they arrange these types of programs. You know people used to compromise their sleep in exams. But it is said in that program that it’s really important for us to take full sleep.

Better if we make proper timetable and try to stick on that. Guys only 2 weeks are left. We have to study just for 7 days. We can…. Why give up….yester day I also met one girl doing bachelor….she was giving up from exams. I asked her not to give up and took her with me to that program….now she if concentrating…. Anyways…
Guys study hard and do well…... everything will be fine…..have fun….!!

~ 5 Ways To Look Fabulous In White ~

"Do you see white in your future? No, I’m not referring to a wedding but rather your summer wardrobe. Nothing spells summer like white. While the temperature rises you can stay cool and look fantastic in white. White will add impact to your summer wardrobe and will keep you looking fresh and inviting. To get the most from wearing white I have a few suggestions -

1. White reflects light so wherever you wear it you will bring attention. Having said that, if you have any body parts you don’t want to appear larger don’t accentuate that area by adorning it in white and wearing a dark color next to it. What you can do is wear white from head- to- toe so no particular area has focus. For example, if you have large hips don’t wear white bottoms with a dark top because the eye will be drawn to the bottom. Instead, wear a white top and white pants and use accessories to take the focus away from the problem area. Or wear white on top and black on the bottom." Link

Our Experience

Uni lifestyle has been a challenging and fun loving one so far.

As usual being all stranded in a foreign country wasn’t easy at first. We all miss home very much even after a year of being here. Like they always say “home sweet home”. Its not only about being with the loved ones but also missing the culture, food and entertainment .But its about gaining experience we suppose ….right?
Hostel life was at first difficult to adjust to. We had to be independent and we found our own circle of friends later. This made us move from our comfort zone and be more sociable. Some of us start looking for jobs for our own expenses and such. Finding a job was difficult. We needed experience even to get the first job and the pay was not into our liking at times. We had to work till late and the transport was an issue. It was annoying to work while we had assignment due to the following day. Hence juggling time between uni and work was stressful. Many of us were new to the course we are taking in the uni. Facing exams and doing assignment were way stressful that we thought .For example, we had to learn how to use Harvard referencing system which was extremely new and complicated.
We managed to get better or at least we hope to get better at the courses we are doing. The only source of entertainment at low cost DC PLUS was shut down. Although it was addictive, but it still caused a huge impact on us especially during holidays and weekends. So now we have learnt to kill time by trying new sports and other exciting activities like trying out cafes, restaurant and co shopping!!! We are trying to adapt to this new lifestyle and like they,” If you can’t avoid it….Enjoy it!!” * Big grinz*

Whiteheads: do not squeeze

"Whiteheads are the collection of sebum and keratin that plugs the opening of skin pore. They are caused because of excessive secretion of sebum oil. Their tips does not get blackened because the clogged grease is not exposed to the air and oxidation does not take place. These appear in the area where the skin is delicate and fine. They are common under the eyes, on the nose, cheekbone, temples and forehead." Link
Hello guys

Myself Irene..i actually did my masters from ANU. Now I am applying for another master. It was really a very good experience while I was doing my masters. Here pattern of studies are different from my country. In my country our assessment is done on the basis of exams. In my country there is no assignment (i.e. report writing, presentation or essay writing). We only have 100 marks exam at the end of the semester or year. In ANU this pattern is different. Earlier I was finding problem but by time I accommodate. I think this type of studies helps us in doing the practical thing. Now I realize that I am actually applying my theory into practice. This is the actual learning. Moreover here professors are really helpful. They provide guidance in doing assignments. Even university has provided many help centre for students, so that we can learn the pattern of studies here.
I really learnt a lot from this university. I think new students who are coming every semester face the same problem with this study culture. Here I would say university helps them a lot. This experience of my life motivates me. If you guys have the same experience related to the studies then please write it.

hello friends

There are many events organised by this university. But i like Multi cultural bol.
In our university this event is really very kool. Have you guys ever been to this festival ? I think everyone of us should attend this. You will meet people from different culture and tradition. In this every one reprsent their country. They wear clothes of their own country. I attended this function last year. I wore this dress. I saw multi cultural envirnoment in one place. Seriously It was awsome. This year it would be celebrated in Burton and Garran hall on 23 May. Try to participate.

It would be a great experience in your university life.

World of Women

"Over the past two years I have made several trips with the UN World Food Program to poor, developing countries."

"These pictures are just a few of the images I have brought back with me. One thing that has struck me most on my travels has been my encounters with women from different backgrounds and cultures, and it is through them that I have discovered new meaning about what it is to be a woman. The women I have photographed live in impoverished situations where the fight for basic needs is a daily one. Yet the kindness they have shown me, a mere visitor into their reality, has been immense. In Guatemala, it was a woman who invited me into her tidy mud hut to show me how she prepares her family’s meals everyday. In Cambodia, a woman cried to me out of anguish about her husband infecting her and her newly born son with AIDS. In Sri Lanka, I saw women banning together in the face of the 2005 Tsunami disaster." hi guys... have you seen the fire night.... so awosome....I really enjoyed.

You know in my country we have one festival called Dipawali. This day we worship our God "Ram". This day we celebrate because of some holy reason. In our country we also burn crackers. seriously i like it alot. But in canberra what i experienced is that it is very professional. Everything is so systematically done that i cannot compare it with my country. Actually in my country even children burst cracker. I am putting one of my favourite fired cracker picture here. I tink you will like it.

Hey anyone of you have seen the fire show done for olympics. seriously that day you should see the telstra tower. it was really beautiful.

If anyone of you have that photo then please send it to Anant. i really want that....!!! Thank you

Enjoy every moment in canberra guys...!!! cheers

Hi friends, I have something to share with you. Hope you also experienced it.

"Being a woman in canberra is not exactly easy. being a woman from a completely different country in australia at university is definitely not easy. you have to get used to the different weather, the different culture and make a completely new circle of friends. the biggest problem is probably not having a good close group of GIRLFRIENDS like you do back home. these are the girls you share your intimate fears, secrets and experiences with. here in canberra it takes you a long time before you are comfortable with another close group of friends to be able to talk about just anything. often I feel that I have many good friends but not many close friends like at home. I am not quite sure whether this is a common problem faced by all girls and boys in canberra but I definitely do feel that the experiences and problems faced by the two groups are quite different. Although both groups have the same type of problems getting to meet and mingle with new friend networks, women always have and always will have different issues that are constantly bothering them than guys do. For instance if we have relationship problems (with boyfriends or just friends for that matter) we are more likely to want to approach our close girl friends rather than guys that we may even know well. Or maybe this is just how I feel? With that said, I definitely enjoy the problems that come with being a woman in a completely new place. After all it is the new experiences that make you a stronger person. Or at least that's how I feel about my experience in Canberra."

"Brodetto - garlicky fish stew with herb toasts"

"At its simplest this lovely stew can contain only one or two fish. It is after all a peasant dish and need not be extravagant. Choose meatier varieties such as monkfish, snapper and blue eye for the body of the meal - they add flavour and depth, while smaller fillets or pieces such as garfish and red mullet are subtle and add interest" Link

"Gingerbread women"

"You're too old for a teddy bear. Nobody rubs Vicks VapoRub on your chest at night any more, reads you stories with happy endings, or warms your little pyjamas by the fire. But - thank heavens - you can still eat gingerbread.
Method
Combine the sugar, golden syrup, butter, spices and fresh ginger in a heavy-based pan over low heat, and let melt, stirring. Remove from the heat for 2 minutes, and then stir in the bicarbonate of soda until light and fluffy." Link

"Literature: From 1865, a black woman's love story"

NEW YORK: Literature

"It reads like a typical Victorian melodrama: an impoverished young woman, "strangely, wildly and darkly beautiful," becomes a governess in a wealthy household, and, behold, a French count falls for her and wants to sweep her away.
But there are crucial differences: It is set in race-torn America; the heroine is mulatto; and, the book, "The Curse of Caste; or The Slave Bride," is believed by some scholars to be the first novel ever published by an African-American woman.
Julia C. Collins, a free black woman who lived in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, serialized "The Curse of Caste" in 1865 in The Christian Recorder, the newspaper of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. This month it is being published for the first time in book form by Oxford University Press."

Hi everyone! This is my second semester in the Australian National University. I found and experienced many thing in this university and canberra too. But I want to share one of my bad experience in australia. It is related to the availability of accommodation in canberra. Last year when i came to this country I had no accommodation. I applied for the on campus and off campus accommodation from india itself but i didn't get any response from the university or anywhere else. When i reached the university i ask for the accommodation for which they said that they dont have. They told me to go to university accommodation service. There they provided computers and telephone to search and contact people who have accommodation. During that period i was living in YHA hostel "Thanks to them". But you know what i was searching continuouly for the accommodation for two weeks but i didn't get anything. I met many student who were going through the same situation. Everyone was saying that why this university is not arranging anything. Even i was feeling very bad for this university. After three week when i didn't get anything my parent told me to come back. They said if you dont have place to live there, then leave everything. I last time met Toad Hall people and told them the whole story. That day i felt that even hostel people cannot do anything as they receive so many applications from student and they have very limited rooms. I was the lucky person that who accommodation people cannot do anything.got the accommodation that after so much of struggle. But i also realise that even universitycannot do anything as they recieve thousands of application from students.

I don't know but i think university should open other new hostels for the students as the number of students admission is increasing in this university.

This step of the university will help new students.
what you think am i wrong??

" Should You Get Black Hair? "

"You might be thinking of getting a drastically new look. Most times, this only entails a change in your everyday makeup, a new haircut, or a few touch-ups to your wardrobe. What’s really guaranteed to up your look’s shock factor is getting a new hair color. If you’ve been a blonde all your life, turning brunette will turn heads. If you’ve never switched your brown hair color for any other shade, going a lot lighter will brighten up your appearance. But if you go with black hair, then that will definitely give you a whole new look. " Link

"Layered Hairstyles"

By Beverly Smith
" Layered hairstyles are one of the most popular hairstyles these days. This style works best on straight hair, preferrably long hair.
Layered hairstyles look great by bringing more volume to your hair and because of the layers, you can play around with colors and highlights.
Layered haircuts result from having the hair cut into a number of layers, the shortest being the uppermost, with length increasing at the ends. "

My most memorable experience that I would like to share was my first day at ANU.
I was totally lost and did not have any idea as in what to do and what not to do. Everything seemed so strange and for once, I just felt of going back home. Things seemed exciting and fascinating to me but I was totally clueless of how to go about doing things and making myself settled. Luckily for me, there were people around me who helped me a lot and gave me valuable advice that was really important to me as I was new student. I met people of different culture and was overwhelmed by their sweet gesture that they meted out to me. I met people from my country and they made me feel so comfortable that not even once I missed my family and friends back home. They shared their past experiences with me and gave me their suggestions about how to go about doing things in the first week. I walked down the entire campus that day and one thought that always came to my mind was: “Wow! Such a huge Campus”.
I realised that very day that everyone must have had the same kind of feelings and everyone must have gone through the same kind of emotions that I went through when I first arrived out here. Its just a matter of time that takes for a person to settle down, but once everything gets sorted out here- “Life will be a wonderful journey, the memories of which you will cherish for a life time”

"Succesful use of colour is not a hit-and-miss business. By following some basic rules you can become more confident creating colour schemes and knowing the reasons for your colour choices. The most important consideration when choosing which colours to use together is the inherent characteristic of each colour. Is the colour cool (receding) or warm (aggressive)? To know which colour will best suit your scheme, you must first understand the colour definitions."

Its been 46 days since I arrived in Australia or more specifically to “the land down under”. A seven hour flight from Malaysia proved to be extremely fatiguing and upon setting foot in Sydney, I succumbed to the fact that I am gonna have to be living my life alone for the next 10 months at least. It was scary at first but throughout these 46 days, I have had both sweet and bitter memories. The desire to travel to this land is finally fulfilled and I am utterly thrilled with the lush green surroundings of Australia where canopies are seen at almost every road. From Sydney to Canberra, it was such a major transition for me…from the hustle bustle of the city to an extremely quiet place. My first 4 nights in Canberra were awfully horrible and cold!! I felt like packing once again and getting back to Malaysia as I missed the adrenaline rush I had back there during college.

Nevertheless, as soon as classes and work started things have been picking up well. I now wish everything slows down a little as there is so much to study as I’m doing one of the toughest course in the world. The way of life here is so different. Everything in campus closes at 5pm and no one goes for ‘yum cha ‘(a Malaysian slang of sitting in a coffee shop and having a long chat with friends). Moreover, the clubs in Canberra suck!!! I hope I don’t lose my love for dancing soon cos the music and ambiance in clubs here aren’t as good as back home in Malaysia. One thing I am grateful for is that I choose an excellent hall of residence to live in…Burton and Garran Hall has proved to be an awesome place be. Orientation week gave me an insight into the culture here and I had a great time. With a residence capacity of 500+ students, I have met people from all around the world and am learning various cuisines. Hope to impress my parents when I get home. I look forward to giving my all in this country and simultaneously hope to reap as much as I sow. Life in my firm belief is not a mere destination but rather a journey of infinite adventure.

"Meditation Exercises"

"Meditation is a technique millions of people use to help focus and calm the mind. Although meditation is often associated with religion, the practice of meditation does not have to be religious. The techniques used are designed to help a person gain insight and to assess or manage life's processes, which may include physiological, mental, emotional or spiritual issues.
The American Heart Association recommends that heart patients spend 15 to 20 minutes daily on quiet reflection, deep breathing and visualization of a peaceful scene. It also suggests classes in meditation or yoga, after consulting a physician." yourtotalhealth

It is a day full of autumn. The leaves are gorgeous, and it smells good outside. I am being so productive it scares me. What scares me more is my inability to get you out of my head. Everything reminds me of you, or something you said, or something we did together. I found myself looking at pictures of us at 2 am last night. Is that wrong? I mean, I know it’s not a sin….but it scares me because all of a sudden I am facing the thing which might scare me the most.

Being alone.

Moving to Australia seems inconveniently necessary for this, for us. I mean, if I wasn’t going, I wouldn’t be able to think of a good reason to stop. Or to slow down. I think I would just grab your hand and run ahead of us and fuck everything up again. So I guess there’s hope. Hope for something more, hope for us…for me not to self-destruct again, for you to be less afraid of the thought of committing.

I want you to be vulnerable again. I think that is how I knew you were being serious; you actually were honest in your weakness. I think that is what attracts me to you. You have an inability to pretend you are perfect. I lack that. I am the most fake person I know.

So maybe you’d be something I would be good at. Maybe I would have been something you’d be good at. Who knows.

"Breast Cancer"

"Breast cancer is a growth of malignant cells within the breast tissue. Most breast cancers form in the milk ducts or lobes of the breast. There are two types of cancers, non-invasive (or in-situ) which have not spread to the surrounding tissue or other parts of the body and invasive cancers which have spread elsewhere.
Breast cancer will usually first spread to lymph nodes within the breast and the armpits. It may also spread to other areas of the body including the bones, liver, brain and lungs. Tumours in these locations are called 'secondary tumours'." womenhealth

Known as the Metabolic Fat Pill, or AOD9604, this is not a synthetic appetite suppressant or gastro-inhibitor. Already proven to work in obese laboratory animals, the manufacturers, Metabolic Pharmaceuticals, are now focusing on its fourth human trial and they're looking for volunteers to be 'fat' pill test pilots. Canberra is home to three universities and is a fantastic place for young people to study. The city has many opportunities for those who want to further their education and to experience university life. As a Visual Arts/Arts student at the Australian National University I have been able to further my interests in my chosen field and have had the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing and inspirational people.

University life is not just about the degree at the end, its about the time spent learning new things, gaining life skills and being involved in a range of activities that shape the people we become. Canberra offers so much more than degrees, it offers a lifestyle that is relaxed and very fulfilling. I have had some of the best times of my life here in Canberra and would encourage anyone considering university to come and study here.
